A nice bluesy debut. I'll tell you this: ZZ Top will certainly neverbe one of my favourite bands, but that doesn't mean I'm not able to atleast respect them for churning out this slick, well-crafted music thathas as little soul as, well, your average Janet Jackson ditty, but certainlyhas a lot of work and creative effort put into it. I mean, there was somethingunrepairably wrong with this band from the very start, wasn't it? FirstAlbum is almost entirely blues-based, but it's stiff, by the book,overproduced blues rigidly stuffed into the tight outfit of a Texas rancher.Well, that's obviously what the so-called "Texas Blues" was allabout and that also explains why music like that is so often used in MGMmovie soundtracks - nothing like a good hard blast o' Da Blooze that soundsnice and convincing while it's on but will never even begin threateningto overshadow the movie's plot because it's, well, artificial -I just can't find a better word.
